Why, It’s Only The City Every Carlsbadean Teenager Wants to Live In

Albuquerque is an awfully long name for a city, especially the one you claim as your roots. Of course, it’s no effort to write for almost everyone who’s lived there long enough, even though they still write it on the chalkboard/whiteboard for us when filling out standard test forms in your Senior year of HS. However, when writing it over and over, it tends to get a little tedious. My friends and I find ways to shorten it, and we’ve found that “Alb.”-the logical way to abbreviate- sounds and looks like a tired old man rotting away in his musty old house. So then we come up with “The ‘Burque”; it’s hip, cool, and more fun to write. Not to mention it’s awesome to say, “Yeah. I’m from The ‘Burque.” No, I don’t know where it comes from or who made it up. Ask isaidello, I suppose, but I think she’s on a sabbatical from LJ for the summer.

I can so see myself as a cool, college-student, Beat poet wearing all black, my Converses, and a beret. And where’m I from? The ‘Burque.

About The Original Kate

Along with artistic tendencies, Kate enjoys unusual people and is constantly striving for some sort of nonconformity. Kate offers a perspective that is thoughtful but well-written and full of images within the words. Other tidbits that might intrigue: she has very long auburn hair, and, you guessed it, her favorite color is orange.
